The Cabinet of Ministers has seriously considered the prevailing drought situation in certain districts in the country.
Taking into consideration the wide impact of the severe drought prevailing at present, the Cabinet at it's meeting held on 3rd October has decided to appoint a Ministerial Committee under the Chairmanship of Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Irrigation and Water Management.
This committee will consist of other relevant Ministers, to be assisted by an Officials’ Committee, to make recommendations to The Cabinet on medium and long term remedial measures to be adopted to mitigate the impact of droughts on livelihood of the people.
